With the plethora of FBS games that dominate our television screens on Saturday afternoons, it's hard to remember the great FCS venues that fill up on a regular basis. Appalachian State's Kidd Brewer Stadium can easily be mistaken for a major college venue with its intimidating environment and sellout crowds. Set amongst the magestic Appalachian Mountains, Kidd Brewer Stadium is one of the most picturesque settings in all of sports. Few can match the natural beauty that surrounds this arena. The stadium is equipped with a double deck side, an impressive press box, and a lawn behind the endzone for folks to view the action. Once inside, the intensity of the fans becomes evident as the students and residents of Boone make it challenging for any opponenent who dare face this FCS power. Devoted to their beloved Mountaineers, these fans drape themselves in black and gold and have had a lot to cheer about in recent seasons. Three straight national championships (2005-2007) have been a major cause for applause in Boone. However, the 2007 victory over Michigan in "The Big House" is still hanging over around these parts. Vistors can't pass an apparrel shop without seeing memorabilia celebrating the blocked kick that preserved a 34-32 Mounatineer victory. Fans wearing t-shirts reading things like "Betcha know where Boone is now!," dominate this campus. Football fans may begin to know this quaint North Carolina town a little more if their advances toward earning FBS status are granted. Yosef, the Mountaineer mascot named after mountain talk for "yourself," might become a household name as App State continues to grow in the ranks of college football. In the meantime, Appalachian State is an astounding team and an exciting place to view a game. If you ever make it to Boone, you are bound to "enjoy Yosef."
