Driving into Boulder, Colorado is a memorable sight.  With the Rocky Mountains to your left and the famous red tiled roofs of Colorado’s campus blanketing the city, you get a sense of something special.  Set against the Flatirons, Folsom Field provides some of the best views in college football.  The stadium blends in with the rest of the campus because the red tile roofs topping each building also covers parts of the stadium.  In addition, I found it very difficult to find parking under twenty dollars.  But, once I was set, the tailgating atmosphere proved to be worth the parking fees.  Just before kickoff, there is a flurry of activity in front of the stadium where a large statue of a buffalo stands strong and the words, “Folsom Field,” sparkle gold against the sunlight.  The stadium holds 53,750 and will sell out for the most important games (against Nebraska or Colorado State).  The crowd can be quite wild when it wants to be.  But, otherwise, the fans are a bit fair-weather.  The students always come out in full force “shoulder to shoulder” as their fight song proclaims.  It especially rises to the occasion when Colorado’s mascot, Ralphie, a 1,300 pound buffalo, leads the team onto the field.  Ralphie’s entrance is one of the most famous traditions in college football.  The city of Boulder itself is a great college tradition.  Much of the post game action collects on Pearl Street, which offers a long strip of eclectic shops and restaurants.  Folsom Field and Boulder, Colorado is a must stop for any college football fan – the setting alone will satisfy.
